Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to cancer research. In 2007/08 we spent £333 million on cancer research projects, and a further £11m million on cancer information and advocacy. We fund the work of more than 4,500 scientists, doctors and nurses, all working together to beat cancer. Our research receives virtually no government funding and our supporters are crucial if we are to continue to make real progress against this disease. Regular donations from as little as £2 per month provide us with the stability of longer term funding which enables us to plan ahead. Our vision of beating cancer is as the heart of everything we do. As a charity we have four main purpose statements that explain how we intend to achieve our vision: # Carry out world-class research to improve our understanding of cancer and find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of cancer. # Ensure that our findings are used to improve the lives of all cancer patients. # Help people to understand cancer, the progress we are making and the choices each person can make. # Work in partnership with others to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer.
